The University of Bedfordshire is a large, modern university north of London, with six campuses, and approximately 23,000 students. Riyada’s ultimate objective is to provide solid support to SMEs in order to nurture the entrepreneurial culture in the Sultanate of Oman and enhance the contribution of SMEs to the socioeconomic development of the country.
The SME Development Fund (SMEF) has been established under the Sultanate’s offset programme, with the objective of developing entrepreneurship, and financing small and medium enterprises in the Sultanate. Launched in March 2014 and commencing operations in April, SMEF’s objectives are financing and supporting existing SMEs who are seeking to expand in scale and scope, and the ‘creation’ of new entrepreneurs. SMEF is working towards creating jobs by creating entrepreneurs; training and nurturing entrepreneurs. SMEF has through the past three years of work, built knowledge of creating entrepreneurship culture amongst students, and also has helped SMEs acquire new skills to grow their companies, through training, nurturing and networking. Oman Society of Engineers (OSE) is a non-governmental and not-for-profit organization established in 2001 by a Ministerial Decision No. 186/200. The society seeks to advance all matters related to engineers, as a profession, in Oman. The society serves the engineering community and contributes to the development of Oman. It is open for all engineering disciplines and to both Omani and expatriate engineers working in Oman. The society is run by volunteers from diverse organizations and industries. It is governed by a constitution and is run on a non-profit basis with training programmes and sponsorship fees as the main revenue sources. Its set objectives and strategy include regulating engineering practices and supporting the needs and rights of engineers, contributing to the industrial and architectural development of Oman, and working towards strengthening scientific and technical ties with all engineers in Oman, in the region and internationally.

Situated at the south-eastern tip of the Arabian peninsula, the Sultanate of Oman is rightly renowned as the most welcoming and hospitable country in the region. It is also known for its rugged mountains, beautiful wadis and white sand beaches. Under His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said’s judicious leadership, the country has made gigantic strides forward both economically and socially since 1970.
At the time of the conference, in late March, the temperature is likely to be around 30C – but even if it is a little higher, all cars, buildings and hotels have very effective air-conditioning systems.
